My dream growing up was to solve climate change (I was a big dreamer). When Jensen and I first started the brand, we viewed “sustainability” in a much more isolated way. As we’ve built the brand, it’s become more clear the ways workers’ pay, accessibility, and materials all influence sustainability - the word doesn’t exist in a vacuum. We are grappling with the tension between our love for consumer product and its impact on the environment.

Through building Oddli, we’ve learned there is no one definition of sustainability in the fashion industry, and no governing body to impose regulation. Every company has to create their own definition of sustainability to hold themselves to, so we decided that our guiding principle of sustainability would be transparency. Rather than working towards an undefinable “sustainability,” we vowed to always be transparent about how we’re building Oddli.

ETHICAL LABOR

At Oddli, we view everyone who touches the product and brand, from the person helping us choose a fabric to the hands sewing the garment to the finisher steaming and bagging the piece as a part of our team.

As such, we exclusively partner with suppliers and factories who pay their workers fairly. Currently we work with 3 LA factories, 1 Las Vegas factory, and 1 Hong Kong factory.

ECO-CONCIOUS MATERIALS

DEADSTOCK: When we started the brand in 2020, we began by upcycling deadstock into patchwork pieces. We wanted to create from what already existed. Working with deadstock is like creating a puzzle with varying supply of each piece, so while it isn’t possible to create every garment from it, we still use it as much as possible and delineate when it is used.

COTTON: We work exclusively with GOTS certified organic cotton or Oeko Tex & BCI 100% cotton.

NYLON & POLY: When we use it, though we prefer not to, our aim is for it to be 100% recycled.

100% RECYCLED PACKAGING

We view packaging as a treasure that’s meant to be kept rather than thrown away. The Oddli Box is a part of the experience that, like the clothing, we hope becomes an invitation to holding your dreams, ideas, connections with others, etc.. Every piece of packaging is made from 100% recyclable paper.
